2012 Paella Fest—Wow!

A Day of Fun, Festivity and Food Celebrating the National Dish of Spain

It was a sunny day on the banks of the McKenzie river, 25 paellas were masterfully prepared, thousands of dollars were raised for Food for Lane County, and friends old and new gathered to share in an amazingly successful 2012 Northwest Paella Fest.

Throughout the day and into the evening, laughter, music, big smiles of satisfaction and aromas that defy description by mere mortals abounded in the meadow. A few comments that I heard included, “This is the favorite day of my summer” ... “I look forward to this day all year long” ...  “This is better than Christmas!”

The special day happens because the spirit of paella brings everyone together who contribute in so many ways. Thanks to everyone for your generous donations of food, time, money, and muscle.

Special thanks to:
Becky and Dave for providing the very special location—the hours of work preparing, maintaining and restoring can’t be underestimated ... Steve for the hours of fabulous music—his voice was pretty raspy the next day ... Collin for hauling and schlepping tables, kegs, tubs and just about anything else up and down the valley ... Kim for designing and maintaining the blog site ... Eric and Mo for being the keepers of the essentials, both material and spiritual.

To help jog the memories of this wonderful day please write an entry/comment with a little (or big) description of the paella you prepared.

If you have any photos of the day uploaded to Picasa or Flickr or another photo sharing site, please send the link to Kim and she will include it in the blog.

See you all next year!

The blog could acknowledge the generous local brewers who donate great beer for the event. For 2013, Claim 52 Brewing is donating a keg of their fabulous kolsch.
